Best Tyre Brands for UK Roads in 2026

An honest, fitter's-eye view of which tyre brands are actually worth the money in 2026 — premium, mid-range and budget.

Tyre Rescue Team · 31 May 2026

After fitting thousands of tyres a year we get a pretty good view of which brands deliver and which are over-marketed. Here's our straight-talking guide to the best tyre brands for UK roads in 2026.

Premium tier

Michelin

Still the benchmark. Long mileage, excellent wet grip, low noise. The CrossClimate 2 is our pick for UK all-season driving.

Continental

Closest competitor to Michelin and often slightly cheaper. The PremiumContact 7 is exceptional in the wet. German-engineered.

Bridgestone

Particularly strong on premium German cars and a popular OE fit. Excellent dry grip; some patterns are a little noisier.

Pirelli

The go-to for performance cars. The P Zero range is unbeatable on a hot summer day; less brilliant in deep winter rain compared to Michelin.

Mid-range tier

Hankook

Korean-made, OE on a lot of new cars. Genuinely excellent value — close to premium performance at noticeably lower prices. We fit a lot of Hankook.

Goodyear

The Vector 4Seasons Gen-3 is one of the best all-season tyres on the market and a top pick for Kent's climate.

Dunlop

Owned by Goodyear, often shares technology. Reliable and well-priced.

Falken

Japanese brand with strong UK following. The Azenis FK510 is brilliant for hot hatches; the Eurowinter HS01 punches above its price in winter conditions.

Budget tier — the good ones

Not all budget tyres are created equal. Brands like Sailun, Nankang, Avon (now Goodyear-owned) and Kumho are solid value if you're on a tight budget. Avoid unbranded Chinese tyres with poor wet ratings — the EU tyre label is your friend.

What about the EU tyre label?

Every tyre sold in the UK still carries the EU label showing wet grip (A–E), fuel efficiency (A–E) and noise (decibels). Anything below a C in wet grip should be avoided for UK winters.

Our recommendation by use case

  • Family car, mixed driving: Michelin CrossClimate 2 or Goodyear Vector 4Seasons.
  • High-mileage commuter: Continental PremiumContact 7.
  • Performance car: Michelin Pilot Sport 5 or Pirelli P Zero.
  • Tight budget but safety-first: Hankook Ventus Prime or Avon ZV7.
